Scott Brough was born in a small town in northern Utah where he developed an interest for drawing at a young age. His father, who appreciated fine art, recognized the natural ability in Scott and encouraged him to develop his skills. A friend of Scott's father, local painter Robert Day, helped Scott learn the fundamentals of oil painting as a boy.
Scott continued to pursue and learn about drawing, watercolor, and oil painting throughout high school, earning an art scholarship to Utah State University. While a university student, Scott was able to study under many noted artists including Chris Terry and Glen Edwards. He was able to learn a great deal about the human figure, composition, and developed a love for oil paints. Scott won a Binney & Smith art scholarship and completed university study earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. Impressionism was always a concept which Scott deeply respected and tried to incorporate into his own work. He was particularly intrigued by the work of Russian impressionists. In 1999, 2000, and 2007 Scott was honored to attend workshops by renowned Russian painter Ovanes Berberian. These were pivotal times for Scott as he gained a tremendous insight about the use of color and how color temperature relates to light. Scott now paints full-time creating colorful and impressionistic landscape, still life, and figurative oil paintings. He is known for his poignant compositions, sophisticated brush strokes and powerful, yet harmonized palette. Coastal, urban, and rural settings all inspire Scott and each can be found in his work. |
